Opposites of the world and the Church:

The world says "live" but Christ says we are "dead".

Colossians 3: 1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

The world looks on gray hair as a bad thing and people spend lots of money to hide it. The Bible says that gray hair is a blessing if it is found with wisdom.

Proverbs 20:29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head. 16:31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

The world fosters self-exaltation but God looks for those of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

The world teaches to be proud but Christ's teaches us to have a humble heart.

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

The world counsels to "look out for number One" but Christ says to "Love others as I have loved you." He went to the cross for us.

John 15: 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The world measures one's worth on their financial gains but Paul says that "The love of money is the root of all evil."

I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

The world says that our joys are gotten by prosperity, good times, partying, etc. while only Christ can give us the real joy.

1Peter 1: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
