Can Your Name Be Blotted Out?

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Revelation 3:5

Can you be lost after you have been saved?  Can your name be blotted out of the book of life?  Yes.

Jesus spoke to the church in Sardis that to those who “overcometh”, their names would not be blotted out of the book of life.

First of all, what is the book of life?  It is a book that is in heaven where all the names of the redeemed, or those who have been saved from sin by Jesus Christ.  Revelation 12 through 15 reads the following:  “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”  From that, it is very apparent that your name will have to be written in the book of life in order to make it into heaven.

If the name is in there, it can also be blotted out, which simply means no longer there.  Revelation 3:5 which is given above signifies this can happen.  Moses knew it was possible when he prayed the following in Exodus 32:31 and 32, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.”  God’s answer was the following in verse 33: “33  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.”  So now we know that Moses, God, Christ, and the Apostle John who wrote the book of Revelation knew that names could be removed, or blotted out of the book of life.  From these scriptures, we learn that when a name is blotted out of the book of life, a soul is damned and headed for hell unless there is repentance.  This is not popular doctrine but is correct and biblical.  Yet millions of people are taught that all they have to do is pray a simple prayer, get baptized and they’re in for life no matter what.  I’m sorry but that’s a lie from hell!

Let’s look at John 10:27-28.  “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”  No man can pluck Christ’s sheep out of his hand.  That’s right, no one can cause you to lose your soul.   However, there is also a condition and it’s found in verse 27 and that is that they hear his voice and they follow him.

Lets look at another popular scripture.  “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39  This is true, none of these things listed here can separate us from God’s love.  Isn’t that wonderful!  But we also have to point out that it doesn’t say sin or transgression anywhere.

Just because you or I can’t give a perfect intellectual answer when someone is cut off from God’s presence doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, because it does.  In Romans 11:22 Paul says the following, “Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.”  Do you see the word “if” that I underlined.  The verses speak for themselves.

Here’s another one.  “¶  I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”  Here, in John 15:1-2, Jesus is plainly saying that every branch in him that doesn’t bear fruit will be cut off.  Notice that these branches are a part of Him but can be cut off.  He gets more plain in verse 6.  “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.”  In included verse 5 so that this couldn’t be taken out of context.  He’s talking, all throughout this entire passage, to his disciples and then to his church.

There are many other scriptures that can be brought out but I try not to make these blogs too long.  Please don’t feel that I’m trying to make anyone angry but I am burdened and distressed when I talk to people who feel they are saved but are not living according to God’s Word.  Many have no real knowledge of the Scriptures and are not taught much either.  We want to se souls saved and not lost to the devil through his lies.

I agree with you brother. It is a terrible thing that so many christians are taught that dangerous "fact" that you can't lose your salvation. It's true you can't LOSE it but you can choose to leave God and return to your former way of living which the Bible says in that case it would have been better for you to have not known the way in the first place than to have known the way, then turn your back on God and return to a worldly state. I've tried to tell people about that verse that says you can have your name blooted out of the book of life, even my own pastor. but they do not have (spiritual) eyes to see.

I really like when people are expressing their opinion and thought. So I like the way you are writing

You know, people always enact comments when anything is predicted to happen in 2012, like “fairly that is if the age is still here.” You do effectuate that the Mayans prognosticate the humanity will finish on Dec. 21 (or 23rd)? So in all strong if anything is affluent to take place in 2012 there is solitary the slimmest feasibility that the world will have ended already it happens.

What are you trusting in to be saved. Are you trusting in Christ? If you are trusting in Him for salvation, why can you not trust in Him to keep your salvation. If he cannot keep you saved, than who says he can save you at all. What is redemption, justification, propitiation, eternal life, adoption, everlasting life? You neglect all of these doctrines. Is it possible you have come across something you do not completely understand? God does not lie, He is not the author of confusion, and He is not willing that any should perish. So, why would he tell us we have eternal life, if in fact we do not have eternal life.

I have all the faith that Christ will keep me. That is not a problem. He said he'd never leave or forsake us. The problem is with us, mankind. We were given a freewill nature as exhibited in the Garden of Eden and while God was able to keep man there, man couldn't keep himself due to his disobedience. The same with salvation and following Christ. The doctrines you mentioned are all wonderful doctrines and I'm aware of each, but when God blots a name out of the book of life as mentioned above, he does it because man has gone to far into sin to be one of his, and that can only be fully determined between Christ and man because we know we can come freely to him for forgivness. That's why he told the church in Philidelphia, "Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." Revelation 3:11 Again, he also gave the condition th the following promise in John 10:28, " And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." it is in the preceeding verse 27, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" So, if we follow him, he CAN AND WILL keep us. It's up to us!

God is faithful to His Word. We must take it all seriously. When He closed the door to the ark there were only 8 people along with the animals bird and other critters. Jesus closes the door at the wedding feast and He told the five "foolish virgins" I never knew you. There is a time coming when He will close the door again. It's time for us to share the Word and warn those who are also "foolish" to become born again of His Spirit. Billions are in danger due to "religion". No one in Christ will be rejected but there are many who "claim to be" who will. Please pray with me for a true revival let by the Holy Spirit. Time is short now....

The word of God says in matthew 7:21-23"Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord,'shall enter the kingdom of My Father in Heaven"
these people were church people with a relationship, yet to God,they were practicing sin, there fore they became unworthy of Gods grace because of the abuse of their unrepentant hearts

First of all, brother, I understand your position of people not being saved because of sin or such and such limit of sin. But remeber, we have all fallen short of the glory of God and where by nature children of wrath as Romans plainly states. By saying that keeping my salvation depends on me not sinning , obviously makes it salvation by works and by grace through faith. The gospel of John clearly states that everyone sins, and that he who says hasn´t sin makes himself a liar. That´s why Jesus needed to come, because besides Him we were never gonna get to the father. Paul says in Romans that we will never be justified by works(obedience) of the law, but by placing our faith in the true savior Jesus Christ. By saying that it all depends on not sinning, you´re saying you can reach God without needing Christ, and you can do it by your own efforts. You will always sin, wether it be in word, thought or deed, that´s why it can´t depend on that. Are you gonna be able to defeat the works of the devil most of the time? Yes. But once in a while a little one of those bad guys will come up. Is one sin more horrifying than another one just becuase of how our natural minds grasp it? No. The bible says, all sin is the same, there´s no difference between lying and stealing and an unrighteous thought of anger. We´ve all fallen short. Christ is all and in all.

I believe the Book of Life was written at the same time all human life was known, ie.; before we were formed in the womb. And all who choose to go to the LORD, ie.; sit in His hand. He doesn't take us unwillingly with His hand. We decide to submit and go into His hand. And those whom He has in His hand, He keeps, and they are verified by the Record in His Book of LIFE, to be revealed at an appointed time. Those who choose to NOT submit to His hand, are blotted out. (with the exception of children and those without the mental capability to choose) Those who are blotted, will have the truth revealed and believe by their sight, and the Book of Life will verify, by the absence of their name, that they are not included to proceed to the 1000 reign with Christ.

Thank you for sharing your article.
God Bless you.

What about Hewrews chapter 6 in reference to repenting unto salvation? Did you miss that one? What about the words "he that overcomes" in Rev 3:5? Who is it that overcomes? It's the one who has faith in Jesus. ONE cannot loose their salvation because salvation is not a thing, it's someone; Jesus (JUDE 24-25). There is a lie coming from Hell but it's not that one is saved and secure. I'm sorry but all the scripture you use and others point to people who only professed a belief in Christ. The book of 1st John (some 38 times) mentions that we might know that we are saved. A whole book devoted to knowing. God bless you and your endeavors. By the way I'm not a Calvinist!

If you are saved, your name will not be blotted out in the Book of Life...If you received Christ Jesus and believe that Jesus is the Son of God then you are saved..

ARE YOU SAVED???????

If you received not of Jesus then surely, your name is not written in the Book of Life...

The Lord God is always consistent with his words...

matthew 7:21-23"Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord,'shall enter the kingdom of My Father in Heaven" .....

It's so simple, if you do not believe that Jesus is the Son of GOD then surely you cannot enter the Kingdom...Why would you still do things that are not of GOD, from the start you are not really "SAVED"

Wow!! To be sure, God already knows hows names are in the book of life before the world was made and He already knows who will populate the lake of fire, again, "before the world was made" You know I could say much more on this but it would only bring more heat than light. I will say this, however, if your name is in the book of life it was there before time began and will remain there for all eternity.

After reading ALL of these comments I am truly perplexed. On one hand we are being taught that believers in Jesus cannot lose their salvation and that it is a gift. (We are saved by grace through faith and not works, lest any man should boast) Right? Then on the other hand we are being taught that we can lose our salvation and have our names blotted out of the book of life. Wow, just when you think you know your bible, a curveball is thrown at you. I have to do some more digging and pray for understanding. Arghhh!

Anonymous, by saying that by our choosing to submitted or not to submitt, our names are or are not in the book of life, clearly implicates that our decisions, not just Christ's finished work on the cross, will determine our ultimate eternal destiny. Therefore if a person chooses to put their faith in Christ, persevering until the end, those will be saved. But those who once put their faith in Christ, and later fell away, or who are actively participating in none Holy behaviors and actions cannot not be saved. OBEDIENCE DEFINITELY has a part in all of this. Jesus himself said "why do you call me Lord and do not Do what I say" The "do" here implies some kind of work or obedience. Not the works of the law which is what the Jews would've understood by works, but a righteous Holy living. Putting your trust in Christ doesn't just mean that you believed that he died for you or that He is the son of God. Even the demons believe and acknowledge and tremble. Are they saved? No. Christianity has been reduced and watered down to a "don't worry be happy" doctrine. "You are forever saved" is being said by faithless preachers all over. Those who understand the whole counsel of God know how to discern these issues. The real question should be the following: are these who profess to be Christians really born again like Jesus told Nicodemus? If not, they are still dead!

We are all sinners before an after we come to jesus
If we try out hardest an live our hardest for God even after we stumble. The bible says we will be counted not because are but because we will counted righteous thru the blood of the lamb. Yes we can loose salvation but only if you truly are not trying. Never will we reach perfect I don't think but it is possible. The bible says Enoch walked perfect an saw no death for god took him.
So what Iam trying to say is this. WE CAN LEARN TO LOVE CHRIST PERFECT WITHOUT PERFECT UNDERSTANDING. AND I SAY THIS AN I GO MY WAY

UNTOLD MILLIONS .....
STILL UNTOLD.......
WILL YOU GO AN TELL?

So many preachers are preaching these lies. God gave us an example in the children of Israel. God's word is a mystery and He reveals to us in measure,. God saved the children of Israel out of Egypt, which means that if God saves you, you are really saved. Then He baptized them in the Red Sea. Then, just like us, their faith was tested on their wilderness journey, just like our faith is tested after we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. But they lost their faith, and because of this God did not allow them to enter into the Promise Land. This Promise Land served as an example of Heaven. They could not enter into His rest because of their unbelief. Yes, you are saved when you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jssus is the Son of God, and that He was raise the dead, so now we must work to stay save. For if th e natural child was disinherited, because of unbelief, what more do you think will happen with adopted children. Hebrews warns to be careful that a promise given I to us, that we do not falll short. Jesus did not come to give us free will to sin. He came to show us that no matter what we go through, can through faith and love, make through this journey called life. There was no need to cast out Adam and Eve from the Garden, which really Heaven, if sin were okay. God wants us to make Hime our choice. He set before us Life and Death, please choose life. Even if what we are sayings is wrong, and you follow good and keep the faith, yu will still make it to Heaven, but if the once saved always saved is wrong, you do not realize iit on this side, then you will lift up your eyes in hell.

We are saved by grace through faith; and that not of ourselves, it a gift of God, not by works lest we should boast. If we work for it, it's no longer a gift. No act can take you to hell and no act can take you to heaven. It's all by faith. Jesus came to fulfill the law, That's why his teachings are based on the law not on grace. No one can be justified by the law. It's all .by grace through faith. Mixing the law with grace will make grace of no effect. You can't put new wine in old wineskins, both will be destroyed.

Of course obedience is a part of being born again in the spirit (this is free). But then you have to be born again in your soul (mind, will '& emotion), and also you have to be born again in your body, these you have to work for it with fear and trembling. You can go to heaven by just being born in the spirit but then you will go there as a baby Christian - no reward.Being born again in your soul and body require crucifixion of the flesh and this is hard. I often ask God to take me home as a baby Christian, I don't wanna go through trials and tribulation. But the Lord said, you can't rule as a king with your diaper on.
